Maternity Session FAQ's

What can I expect during my maternity session?

Maternity photography sessions are the perfect way to capture the incredible journey that you are on. We start by having a little sit down, a cuppa and get to know one another - don't worry, I won't just throw you infront of the camera! We capture you, your growing bump and your family should you choose to bring them along in beautiful outfits using natural lighting to bring that soft glow.

When should I book my maternity session?

I recommend booking your maternity photography session when you have had your 20 week scan! It's such an exciting way to celebrate seeing your baby growing at your scan!

When will my maternity session take place?

For your maternity photography session, I recommend getting booked in between 28 and 36 weeks - ideally the later the better so your bump is nice and big but not too late so that you are getting uncomfortable! Every pregnancy is different so I like to leave it up to you roughly when that little sweet spot is!

How long will my maternity session last?

This varies depending on how long it takes us to finish that cuppa, how many outfits you want to capture and if there are any older siblings coming along! Usually, it doesn't take much longer than an hour but if other kiddos are also attending, we are in no rush and it takes as long as it takes. As a Mum, I don't want anybody feeling the pressure of having to make a toddler behave!

Can my partner and other children come to my maternity session?

YES. Yes, yes, yes, yes and yes some more. I have lots of Mums-to-be who want to take their maternity shoot as a small window of time for themselves. It can be very empowering to show up alone and have beautiful imagery taken of you and your body.

That being said, I'm a sucker for a swooning soon-to-be Dad helping Mum feeling confident and littlies kissing bumps and giggling as they feel the kicks.

There is no wrong way to do a shoot - just know that whoever comes, you will get the most beautiful images for you to look back on for decades to come.

Do I have to choose my package before my maternity session?

Nope, not at all. You don't need to choose a package or pay your final payment until after you have seen the watermarked gallery of your photography session.

How long is it after my session will I receive the watermarked gallery?

I aim to get your gallery to you within 1 to 2 weeks. These will have the initial edit for viewing only - following your selection of images, I will go through and hand edit all images to ensure they are perfect for you.

Before I start this process, you can also request any little tweaks that you might want.

Where is your studio based?

My maternity, newborn and family photography studio is based in Heworth, York. I am a short walk from the centre of town and, as I have parking available, it is the perfect place to come to, leave feeling INCREDIBLE and go and have a little date afternoon or meal out to continue that feeling.

I can't wait to hear from you! Get in touch here!

Do you provide prints and wall art?

I sure do, my luxury albums and prints are available following your shoot - during your maternity shoot, I will show you some examples should you wish to see them.

Do I need to bring any clothes to my maternity session?

I have a wide variety of outfits so you don't need to worry too much! But I would always recommend bringing something so that you know you will feel comfortable. Upon booking, you will receive a full welcome guide that has all of my top tips in for wardrobe!

Newborn Session FAQ's

What can I expect during my newborn session?

Newborn photography sessions are very slow in pace and I go 100% off what baby wants. We start the session with a hot (I promise) cuppa and a biscuit so that you can sink in to the sofa and take some time to soak up your newborn baby. My style, as you can see, is a combination of lightly posed and natural photos. I will capture you and your baby as they are with no distractions.

If your little one decides that they just want to be on Mum for a little while, then we capture them on Mum. If they want to be on their tummy, they go on their tummy. If they decide that Dad's shoulder is their new favourite place then that is where they go. There is no pressure to get the perfect, forced photo because every single one will come out beautifully.

When should I book my newborn session?

I recommend booking your newborn photography session when you have had your 20 week scan! It's such an exciting way to celebrate seeing your baby growing at your scan!

When will my newborn photoshoot take place?

I pencil you in for 7 days after your due date as the best time to shoot your little one is between 7 and 10 days whilst they are still all squishy. Then we keep in touch and you let me know when your little one is here! Once they have arrived (as most don't appear on their due date!), we adjust our dates accordingly!

How long will my newborn session last?

How long is a piece of string? This can range from 1-3 hours depending on your little one. If they sleep through the session, it will be closer to the one hour mark but if they need a couple of 45 minute long feeds, it's going to be a little longer... I don't put a time limit on my newborn sessions, they take as long as they take and I will never rush you through it.

Can my other children come to my newborn session?

YES. Yes, yes, yes, yes and yes some more. Now sessions with siblings are definitely a little more chaotic than those without siblings but we wouldn't have it any other way! I tell my families to ABSOLUTELY bring older siblings along however, if you are able to, I recommend having someone collect them midway through.

The first few weeks after bringing your baby home can be quite overwhelming for older siblings. A photoshoot can be such a fun way to get them involved and make them feel like they are also playing a new and exciting role. I always start off by taking photos of them on their own because they deserve to have their moment to shine too! We then move on to capturing all of your babies together, then we get you involved!

Once they have been collected, we then focus on you and your newest little one. If they are not able to be collected, I have a little play room with a toy kitchen and other bits that they are able to play with, should you wish to use it. This also provides you with time to soak in your baby - often, parents tell me it is the first time they have been able to do so since coming home between the midwives and family or hospital visits and it is VERY welcomed.

Do I have to choose my package before my newborn session?

Nope, not at all. You don't need to choose a package or pay your final payment until after you have seen the watermarked gallery of your newborn photography session.

How long is it after my session will I receive the watermarked gallery?

Do you take feeding photos during my newborn session?

Yes, I absolutely do. I will always offer to capture you feeding your baby whether they are breast or bottle feeding. It is an incredible thing to witness and you'll never regret having those moments captured.

Do I need to bring any clothes to my newborn session?

I have a wide variety of outfits but Mum, Dad and Baby so you don't need to worry too much! But I would always recommend bringing something so that you know you will feel comfortable. Upon booking, you will recieve a full welcome guide that has all of my top tips in for wardrobe!

Sitter Session FAQ's

What can I expect during my sitter photoshoot?

Sitter photography sessions are SO much fun. They are smiley, giggly, and capture your baby around their half birthday. It is such a special time but a time many don't capture. The difference in time between their newborn days and first birthday a LOT can happen and change - why wouldn't you want to capture that?!

We capture a few different outfits, lots of toys, lots of playing with you and and siblings that they may have. There is nothing that is too posed or forced because lets face it.. if you've gone a baby around that age, you'll know they don't do quite as they're told to!

Should you wish to, we can also pull out the bubbly bath! This is brilliant way to capture lots of smiling and is a great tool if they're getting a bit tired.

When should I book my sitter photoshoot?

Any time! I have lots of parents who book straight after their newborn session to make sure that you have your date booked in the diary.

When will my sitter photoshoot take place?

Sitter sessions are.. well.. as it says on the tin.. when they start to sit! This is around the 6-7 month mark.

How long will my sitter photoshoot last?

Sitter photography sessions usually last around 1-1.5 hours - this all depends on their mood and how much fun they are having!

Can my other children come to the sitter photoshoot?

YES. Yes, yes, yes, yes and yes some more. Now sessions with siblings are definitely a little more chaotic than those without siblings but we wouldn't have it any other way! I tell my families to ABSOLUTELY bring older siblings along!

We will capture them on their own too so they don't feel like they are missing out!

Do I have to choose my package before my sitter photoshoot?

Nope, not at all. You don't need to choose a package or pay your final payment until after you have seen the watermarked gallery of your sitter photography session.
